Customer photo review of Bike Saddle Comfortable

I really enjoy the seed I purchased. It was better than my last one that had plastic that connected to the rails.

Bike Saddle Comfortable

I just recently got back into cycling. I ride a 20-year-old Trek Madone 5.9 that was given to me. Let’s face it. This bike was built for speed, not comfort. It’s light, nimble, and responsive as a race bike should be. It was not designed for the rider to spend hours and hours in the saddle. That being said, it is my only road bike and since I cannot afford to purchase a new bike, I have to make this work for what I want to get from cycling. At first, my rides were short, less than an hour. As I built my fitness and endurance, my rides began to get longer. I set a goal to ride my first century before year’s end. I didn’t realize how difficult that was going to be on this bike. As my rides crept up to the 3-hour mark, I began to have severe pain in my lower back and “taint” area. Pain that would just get worse and make its way up into my shoulders and down through my legs into my feet. It was extremely frustrating! I felt like my fitness was improving enough to complete these longer rides I was attempting, but the pain would force me to stop usually around the 50-mile mark. How was I supposed to achieve my goal of a century ride if I couldn’t get past 50 miles before the pain was too much to bear? The only real advice I received was to go to a reputable bike fitter and spend the money on a bike fit. Well, I can’t afford that. I wouldn’t even be road cycling if my bike wasn’t given to me. I started doing the next best thing: research. Google has an infinite amount of information on just about any subject anyone would need to learn. I made adjustments and modifications to my bike, and it helped, but the back and butt pain would still show up. From everything I’d read on bike fitting, the saddle material does not really matter as long as the saddle is in the correct position. Google said it, so it must be true, right? Now, I’m not a racer so trimming grams from the overall weight of the bicycle is not terribly crucial to me. Still, I couldn’t justify bolting a 2-pound saddle onto a 16-pound bike. I tried different bibs. I even tried the padded underwear underneath the bibs for double the padding. That was worse. I began to think it was just my age. Maybe I’m too old for this. Maybe I had set my sights too high, and my goals were unachievable for me. I started to lose hope and considered quitting altogether. After all, keeping up the level of fitness I was after was becoming almost a full-time job. And the pain? That was taking the fun out of it. I started seeing ads on my Facebook feed for several different kinds of saddles. All of them claiming more comfort for “riders over 50.” The prices were outrageous! I couldn’t afford $200 for a saddle. I’m not a sponsored racer or even a racer at all. Then, out of the blue, I saw an ad for this saddle from ROCKBROS. The thing that caught my eye was the price. It was affordable with my fixed income! It was worth a try. I was on the brink of giving up so why not spend 40 bucks on something that might work. If it doesn’t, I’d be out only 40 bucks. My saddle arrived on a Friday afternoon. I was excited to give it a try! I immediately installed it on my Madone and eagerly awaited the next morning’s ride. I had planned a 50-ish mile ride on the country roads of the De Soto National Forest. The next morning the weather was exceptionally cool, perfect for a bike ride! Since I was going to be riding solo, I decided to try a longer, 62-mile route. It would be my longest ride ever, as an adult (I did a 78-mile ride when I was 13 or 14 for a fundraiser on my dad’s Schwinn Le Tour). I stuffed my pockets with gels from Hammer Nutrition. I filled two bottles with Hammer’s electrolyte energy drink (I forgot what it’s called) and filled my hydration pack with pure spring water from a friend’s well. I was ready. The route wound Northward in and out of the National Forest through rural South Mississippi. I sucked down a gel every hour and made sure to drink plenty of water along with the electrolyte drink. By the time I hit the halfway mark, I felt great! At the three-quarter mark I still felt pretty good, but I was starting to feel a little fatigued. Maybe I should have eaten breakfast, I thought. About that time, an alert popped up on my phone: LOW BATTERY. Talk about lighting a fire under someone, that did it for me! I wasn’t about to lose the record of this ride to a phone going dead. I had to complete these last 14 miles before it shut off! I squeezed my last gel into my mouth and gulped down nearly the last of my drink, then stepped up the pace. When I arrived at my truck, my battery was on 6%. I was happy and proud. Finally, I had broken the 50-mile threshold, and you know what? Not once did I think about my back pain or numbness in my taint! My legs were tired, but I didn’t have that pulsating, throbbing pain running down my quads and into my calves. Aside from a little fatigue and a stomach that was screaming for some food, I was basically pain-free! That was huge! I know, a proper saddle review would compare this saddle to maybe two or three other brands and see which one came out on top. I didn’t do that. I can’t afford to do that. I bought this one because the price was within my range. Will it last? That remains to be seen, but from what I’ve seen so far, this saddle was just what I needed! It seems to be plenty light enough, as well. Holding this ROCKBROS saddle in one hand and the old Selle Italia that was on my bike when I got it in the other hand, I can’t feel any difference in weight. Now, I have regained the confidence to keep working toward that century ride before the end of the year. There may be better saddles out there, but for the price, weight, comfort, and probable durability, nothing can compare to this saddle from ROCKBROS. If you can afford those $200+ saddles and would rather have one of those brands on your bike than a ROCKBROS then, by all means, go with that. For those of you like me who are not trying to make Team Tour de France, and don’t have an endless supply of cash, this ROCKBROS saddle may be the answer to your lightweight comfort needs!
